No Lloras is a public durational performance that abstracts the role of the Latina entertainer. Coming from a family that hosts events and parties, domestic and conventional roles of entertaining played a major role in my developmental understanding of being a woman and being Latina. The performer is wearing an ambiguously Latin dress in black that recalls a dancing costume and a head piece that is reminiscent of Carmen Miranda that also dons a black veil, similarly worn in funerals by grieving women. The performer alternates between hysterical laughter and hysterical sobbing in a crowd, revealing the spectrum of emotion experienced by women in specific roles, i.e. hosting a party, grieving, performing, etc.
